Getting to Know Him

“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ,

whom thou hast sent.” John17:3 KJV‬‬

“And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus

Christ, the one you sent to earth.” John‬

From a very early age, I’ve been one of those square people (as I have often been described)

who are avid fans of classic films. One of my favorites is a movie titled The King and I. Yes. It’s

a musical. But it’s a musical with grit and a great story line. I’ve seen it many times and still

think of my mother, my movie watching companion of many years, as I watch. One of my

favorite songs in the film, “Getting to Know You”, always remains stuck on a continuous reel in

my head for several days after viewing. It also pops into my head every time I hear today’s

verse.

Getting to know you…. We’ve been given the opportunity, the personal invitation to get to know

God. The one. The only. The creator of the universe. The one who spoke the worlds into

existence. We have the chance to receive His gift of eternal life which is to know Him and His

son Jesus Christ. There’s no greater invitation to receive. I am able to know Him. Through the

sacrifice His son made, I’m able to communicate directly with Him. WOW! The magnitude of

that is often overwhelming! It’s an invitation I didn’t pass up, and one I urge everyone I meet

to accept as well.

Prayer:

Father God, thank you for your personal invitation to get to know You. Thank you for the

blessing of your Holy Scripture for me to study to learn of you. Open my eyes to your Word.

Open my heart to your Spirit. Open my hands to release to you anything that would keep me

from seeking, with my whole being, who you are and why I received your invitation. In the
